The day before the start of the T20 series, Pakistan captain Babar Azam announced the short squad of 12 from his full squad at a virtual press conference. The day before the test was no exception. In the pre-match press conference, before the question and answer session started, Babar mentioned the names of 12 people one by one.
Pakistan had a 20-man squad for the two-match series. From there, Pakistan's 12-man squad for the first match is: Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (Wicketkeeper), Abdullah Shafiq, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Fahim Ashraf, Fawad Alam, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul Haq, Nauman Ali, Sajid Khan and Shahin Shah Afridi.
Now it remains to be seen who will be dropped from the 12-man squad. The combination is clear when you see Pakistan's 12-man team; Fahim Ashraf will play as an all-rounder with two pacers Shahin Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali and two spinners Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan. Besides, Mohammad Rizwan will play as the wicket keeper batsman.
That means there is room for five batters left. It also includes captain Babar Azam, veteran Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam and opener Abid Ali. Then the question remains only about the two openers Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafiq. Imam will be ahead in the race to be in the XI between these two.
Because Imam-ul-Haq has been returned to the team due to his great performance in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in Pakistan. He has scored 48 runs in five innings. It also includes an unbeaten double century innings. Thanks to which he got a chance in the Test squad after two years. Now he will run ahead for the eleven. In other words, Abdullah Shafiq will be dropped from the list.
It is to be noted that Kamran Ghulam, Saud Shakil, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicket keeper), Mohammad Nawaz, Bilal Asif, Mohammad Abbas, Nasim Shah and Zahid Mahmood are not in the 12-man squad of the 20-member Pakistan squad.
